1. Definitions

Cookies are short fragments of text (letters and/or numbers) that allow the web server to store information on the user's terminal (usually on the browser) to be reused during the same visit to the website (session cookies) or later, even after a few days (persistent cookies). According to the user's preferences (except for technical cookies), cookies are stored by the individual browser on the specific device used (computer, tablet, smartphone).

2. Types of cookie

Websites use cookies for different purposes and can be grouped into the categories below. Some cookies only serve a technical function (necessary cookies), while others are designed to create user profiles and are used to send advertisements in line with the user's browsing preferences (marketing cookies). Analytical cookies collect information on how the user uses a website.

Necessary cookies

These cookies are essential for browsing the website and using its features, such as accessing secure areas of the website. These cookies will generally be proprietary session cookies. Although consent does not need to be obtained for these cookies, it is worth explaining to the user what they do and why they are necessary.

On this site we use the following technical/necessary cookies:

Marketing cookies

These are used to monitor and profile users while browsing, examining their movements and their web browsing or consumption habits (what they buy, what they read, etc.), as well as for the purposes of sending targeted and customized advertising services (so-called Behavioural Advertising).

Statistical and analytical cookies

Statistical cookies, also known as “performance cookies”, collect information about how a user engages with a website (e.g. pages visited and links clicked on). None of this information can be used to/can lead to identifying the user. Everything is aggregated and anonymized. The sole purpose of these cookies is to improve the website’s features. This includes cookies from third-party analytics services, provided that the cookies are solely used by the owner of the visited website.

3. First-party and third-party cookies

When visiting a website you may receive cookies from both the website visited (“owners” or “first-party”) and websites operated by other organizations (“third parties”). Parts of the visited page are generated directly by these websites and integrated into the page of the host site. An example is the so-called social plug-in whose use aims to share content on social networks (e.g. Facebook, Twitter, Google+ and LinkedIn). The presence of these plug-ins results in transmitting cookies to and from all websites operated by third parties. The management of information collected by “third parties” is governed by the relevant policy, to which reference is made. Deactivate third-party cookies through the “Manage cookies” panel, using the methods made available directly by the third-party company responsible for such processing.

4. Duration of cookies

Some cookies (session cookies) only remain active until the browser is closed or the logout command is executed. Other cookies remain available also on subsequent visits by the user (persistent cookies). Prometeia's website uses session cookies, with the exception of a persistent cookie that records a user’s cookie preferences for later access. The latter cookie will be stored for one year. Still, when browsing Prometeia's website, interaction with websites operated by third parties who may create or modify persistent cookies, is possible.

5. Managing cookies

If the user does not wish to consent to using cookies, please note that in the browser’s settings Prometeia's cookies can be disabled.

By way of example, in Firefox, access the control panel through the menu Tools -> Options -> Privacy to define whether or not to accept the different types of cookies and to remove them.

However, it should be noted that disabling all or part of the necessary cookies could compromise the use of the website features reserved for registered users.
